On the shocking incidents involving tourism workers

All news concerning the flagship industry of growth in our country, tourism, gives a taste of the brutality experienced by the workers of the sector.

A few days ago, a worker at a hotel in Crete was almost burnt alive by hot cooking oil. Due to the fact that he did not have social security, his employers refused to take him to hospital by ambulance and put him into cold storage (!) for the hotel doctor to examine him!

A video that has been circulating on social media in the past few hours shows a waiter at a well-known beach bar in Rhodes serving customers in the sea while the water was up to his neck!

“The two shocking incidents that have come to light concerning tourism workers in Rhodes and Crete are only a drop in the ocean of the brutal exploitation of workers, on which the famous ‘tourist miracle’ is based. The sensitivities of the Minister of Labour, following the outcry, are not convincing, since the institutional framework providing impunity for employers is being maintained and further reinforced. The way out lies in the organized struggle and the confrontation with this policy, as the recent victory of the long-standing struggle of the workers in the ‘Market In’ supermarket chain has shown”, stressed in its statement the Press Office of the CC of the KKE.
