Nationwide mobilization in Athens by military personnel against a bill proposed by the Ministry of Defence

On Saturday 11 October, thousands of military personnel held a large protest rally in Athens against the Ministry of Defence’s proposed bill, delivering a powerful message to the government. They demanded that the government withdraw the bill, which devalues and degrades them, and they asserted their just demands.
The rally was organized by 14 mass organizations representing active and retired military personnel. Armed Forces personnel and retirees are facing the same economic challenges as the majority of society. They are demanding substantial and decent salary and pension increases, the reinstatement of holiday bonuses, the abolition of taxes, and the immediate provision of housing for Armed Forces personnel and their families.
A large delegation from the KKE, including Nikos Papanastasis, MP of the KKE and retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Special Forces, participated in the protest rally.
“The KKE salutes today’s rally and the thousands of active and retired Armed Forces personnel who have gathered from every corner of Greece to participate in it. We support their struggle for the vindication of their just demands.”
