Letter of protest of the EU parliamentary group of the KKE concerning the banning of the CP of Ukraine
The EU parliamentary group of the KKE in its letter of protest to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, F. Mogherini, denounces the unacceptable decision of the Ukrainian government to outlaw the Communist Party of Ukraine. The content of the letter is as follows:
“The Administrative Court of Appeal of Ukraine definitively ratified yesterday, 17-12-2015, the decision of the reactionary Ukrainian government to outlaw the Communist Party of Ukraine. The bourgeois government of Ukraine, which ascended to this position through a coup, had filed a legal suit in July 2014, via the Ministry of Justice, against the Communist Party of Ukraine. The “accusations” aimed at incriminating the CP of Ukraine collapsed in the “judicial” process that followed. The accusations were so blatantly fabricated that the judge of the case himself was forced to talk about a “politically motivated” case and resign. After this resignation, there followed the resignation of the judges of all the court, and indeed the government initiated criminal prosecutions against them.
Now, the Ukrainian government invokes the unacceptable laws of so-called “decommunization”, which criminalize the activity of the communists and the use of symbols of the international communist movement like the hammer and sickle and red star, and is attempting to ban the CP of Ukraine. It is trying to cover its anti-communist offensive with a “judicial” mantle, and at the same time it is provocatively turning the criminal collaborators of the Hitlerite hordes into “heroes”, insulting the memory of the Red Army’s soldiers that defeated fascism.
The EU parliamentary Group of the KKE denounces the unacceptable decision of the Ukrainian government to outlaw the Communist Party of Ukraine. The KKE demands the immediate annulment of this decision. The criminalization and persecution of the activity of the communists, communist ideology and symbols must stop. The free functioning and activity of the Communist Party of Ukraine must be guaranteed.
It must be stressed that the EU and its allies, the USA and NATO, support the reactionary Ukrainian government and the nationalist and fascist forces and that the anti-communist hysteria of the government met with the approval of the EU’s organs, which praise its “progress’ in “democratizing” the country.
Based on the above, what position does the High Representative take in relation to the unacceptable banning of the Communist Party of Ukraine and the criminalization of the communist ideology and also the activity of the communists by the government of Ukraine?”
