Dimitris Koutsoumbas, GS of the CC of the KKE, visited the farmers’ roadblocks

On 5 February 2025, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE, visited the roadblocks set up by the farmers in Central Greece and Thessaly.
During the meeting, the farmers informed him about the demands of their struggle and the specific problems they are facing.
After talking to the farmers, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, referring to their just demands, said: “The Greek farmers can no longer produce, they cannot cultivate their land. The cost of production is enormous, while there is no guaranteed minimum price for the products. Of course, the profiteering industrialists and big traders sell the products to the supermarkets and, in the end, the cost is passed on to the working-class family when they go shopping”. The GS of the CC of the KKE also referred to the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), which exacerbates the problems of the toiling farmers, noting that “the EU’s CAP has led to an unacceptable situation, to the shrinking of agricultural production and to rural depopulation. The situation in the sector is getting worse every year”.
He stressed that the KKE supports their demands and has already submitted a question to the Parliament. “We will do everything in our power, but the main thing is to intensify the struggle!” he stressed. He called on the farmers to maintain their unity, to organize their social alliance with the workers, the self-employed, the university and school students, etc. against the capitalist system, the governments that serve this strategy, and the parties that have governed or have voted for a series of anti-people laws in the Greek and the European Parliaments.
