Contribution of CP, Turkey

Kemal Okuyan

Communist Party, Turkey

7.12.2015, Brussels

I salute the comrades from the Communist Party of Greece who organizes this meeting and those who represent the fraternal communist parties coming from the different countries in Europe and meeting in Brussel today, I salute you with revolutionary greetings.

What conclusion should we draw if freedoms are suspended, the right of meetings and demonstration is seized, strikes and resistances are banned not only in Brussel today, but in each and every corner of Europe?

Without dwelling on much, I would like to share the major deduction we must make: Capitalism has brought mankind to the verge of depletion in order not to deplete itself.

What is war? If we ask the same question in a more concrete way: Where did the wars going on Ukraine, Syria and Iraq come from?

There is even no need to be a marxist to comprehend that these wars stem from the intentions of international monopolies for new markets, energy and raw material, investment areas, and cheap labour force. Occupations and military interventions, militarism in general terms, ethnic and denominational conflicts, religious fanaticism and “terrorist” attacks are the consequences, not the reasons.

However, it is necessary to look under the hood of this cause effect relationship. The concept of war has been generally and justifiably pertinent to the deepening crises of capitalism. This means that wars appertain to the internal dynamics of capitalism more than the decisions of capital class.

From this perspective, all of the above-mentioned concepts, the occupations, military interventions, militarism, ethnic and denominational conflicts, religious fanaticism and “terrorist attacks” lay the incurability of capitalism bare.

This point of view without any other accompanying is insufficient and leads us astray. The aforesaid concepts altogether are a solution for the incurability of capitalism as well as a solution to make it a sustainable system.

As of the 9/11 attacks, let alone before that, people were confronted with an enemy with no definite origin and no certainty in when or how it appears. Not only were the fundamental rights started to be seized, but also a limitless political and economic freedom of action was provided to the capital.

Handling the issue today, we immediately see that the subject does not concern only the US imperialism. A greater number of countries are being dragged into darkness; the war and terror atmosphere is immobilising the working class and popular strata.

This is a form to govern.

This is both a consequence of capitalism and its preference.

It has become obvious one more time that communists cannot regard wars, terrorist actions, ethnic and denominational conflicts as concepts which stand off from capitalist exploitation.

Let us speak more concrete.

It is an undoubted fact that the US and its allies have a role in establishment and fortification of the ISIS and similar organisations. At least we have clear evidence proving the role of Turkey.

These organisations do not belong to precapitalist era; on the contrary, they are, particularly ISIS is one of the most modern market actors in the region. It is absurd to refer to a movement which connects to the world market in the middle of a war in such a fast way as medieval darkness.

Capitalism is barbarism. The ISIS should be considered as one of the extreme examples of this barbarism. It should be kept in mind that the ISIS abuses the anger of the poor by filling the blanks resulting from the inadequateness of imperialism in struggle against the inequalities to which capitalism gives rise.

The region has been drifted into chaos in which it is inevident who makes war with whom and in which every one may be a friend or foe with each other in any time.

The concept of coalition against the ISIS is a deceiving factor for both the peoples in the region and the workers in the advanced capitalist countries who have been deeply confused with this coalition.

We know that a great majority of the forces that are claimed to fight against the ISIS has a direct or indirect relation with the ISIS. What enables this situation is the rules of the market and capitalism rather than dark relations.

That the ISIS trades oil and steals oil of the peoples of Syria and Iraq is known. Turkey is also in the loop. Moreover, the Kurdish government with the leadership of Barzani, the hegemons in Ukraine and Georgia, and Japanese monopolies are in the loop as well. Not to mention the US!

We are not talking about a mechanism which is beyond capitalism. We directly mention the exploitation of the working class and the loot of energy resources by monopolies. A certain amount of the loot finances the ISIS.

Dear comrades,

We will make a decision. Either we will accept the blackmailing of the capital that adopts war, fundamentalism and terror as a means of governing and we will put forward the struggle with these concepts in an independent way. So we will cooperate with some wings of bourgeoisie as some others do. Or we will treat the struggle against religious fanaticism and terror as one of the subtitles of class struggle.

Our party, Communist Party, Turkey, which directly and consistently objects to the dirty war in Syria, religious terror, and the role which Turkish capital undertakes, is unique among the left actors in Turkey. As soon as AKP and Erdogan came to power, we declared that the benefits of Islamism and the capital match up with one another’s. At that time, not only in Turkey but also in the world there were some progressive forces who considered Erdogan as a democratic and freedom lover politician

Class perspective keeps us off these traps.

Please do  not forget that Putin government, which decides to present Erdogan’s dirty linen in public, used to warn Erdogan against the US, protect and praise him up until yesterday, for instance in 2014.

We do not make mistake if we determine our position for the benefit of proletarians instead of positioning ourselves depending on competition and fight between the capitalist forces.
