The people should not place any trust in the government that is the flag-bearer of Euro-Atlantic energy plans
The Press Office of the CC of the KKE issued the following statement on the Prime Minister's speech at the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC):
"The only ones who have reason to rejoice about Greece being the 'gateway for US LNG' and mineral extraction are the monopolies to which the country's wealth is being handed over, and other sections of capital that benefit from this, such as shipowners. At the same time, the people are condemned to even greater energy poverty, with a complete ban on Russian natural gas serving only to benefit the extremely expensive US LNG. Therefore, the expectations that the Prime Minister tried to cultivate will be dashed very soon, as was the case with the phaseout of lignite, the expansion of renewable energy sources (RES) and the 'green' transition.
These plans and the presence of US energy giants amount to deeper involvement in the energy war and, of course, will not ensure any geopolitical stability nor protect the country's sovereign rights. On the contrary, they will place them even more at the centre of fierce competition and intensify the bargaining that paves the way for joint exploitation.
There is no solution for the people as long as natural wealth, the means of production and the energy distribution network remain in the hands of domestic and foreign monopoly groups, and as long as energy prices are traded on the stock exchange —established by the current and previous governments in line with EU directives. The people should not place any trust in the government, which is the flag-bearer of Euro-Atlantic energy plans, nor in the other parties that support it. They must struggle to pave the way for breaking free from them so that the country's natural wealth and productive potential can be exploited to meet their own needs."
